Common symptoms of a food intolerance include diarrhoea, bloating, farting and tummy pain. These usually happen a few hours after eating.

Common food intolerances include intolerance to lactose (in milk and dairy products), gluten (in bread and pasta) and histamine (in wine and cheese).

A GP may refer you to a specialist if they think you have a food intolerance. You may have blood tests or go on a special diet.

Treatment for a food intolerance is to avoid or reduce eating the food you're intolerant to and foods containing ingredients you're intolerant to.

A food intolerance is when you have difficulty digesting certain foods or ingredients in food. It's not usually serious but can make you feel unwell.
