Dysphagia (swallowing problems)
Overview
Symptoms of dysphagia include coughing or choking when eating or drinking, feeling like food is stuck in your throat, and bringing food back up.
Common causes of dysphagia include some medicines, conditions such as a stroke or dementia, and heartburn and acid reflux.
How dysphagia is treated depends on the cause and how severe it is. Treatments can include medicines for acid reflux and swallowing therapy.
