Symptoms of hypothermia include shivering, cold skin, slurred speech and tiredness or confusion.

While waiting for medical help for someone with hypothermia, try to move them somewhere sheltered, remove any wet clothes and try to keep them awake.

A person with hypothermia may be given oxygen in hospital and may be given warm fluids into a vein.

Hypothermia happens when your body temperature drops below 35C, for example because of cold weather or falling into cold water.

Hypothermia is a dangerous drop in body temperature. It's a medical emergency that needs to be treated in hospital.
