Dengue is spread by mosquitoes in tropical areas of the world, including parts of Africa, Asia and Central and South America.

Symptoms of dengue include a high temperature, severe headache, pain behind your eyes and muscle and joint pain.

Some people with dengue can get more severe symptoms such as fast breathing, bleeding gums and blood in their vomit. This needs to be treated quickly.

Dengue often gets better in a few days. Resting and drinking fluids can help ease the symptoms. Severe dengue needs to be treated in hospital.

The best way to prevent dengue is to try to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes when travelling to countries where dengue is found.

Dengue is an infection spread by mosquitoes. It usually gets better on its own, but sometimes it can be serious.
