If you think you’ve broken your ankle, raise it if you can, hold an ice pack on it and apply pressure to stop any bleeding until you get medical help.

You'll usually have an X-ray to check if your ankle is broken. You may need treatment for a serious break, such as a special boot or plaster cast.

A broken ankle usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal, but it can take longer. Make sure you follow any advice given by the hospital or fracture clinic.
