Nappy rash

Open all pages about Baby

Nappy rash is common in babies. It can usually be treated at home, but see a GP or health visitor if it does not get better.

Nappy rash can be red, pink or brown patches or spots on the bottom. The skin may also be scaly, dry or itchy.

Things you can do to treat or prevent nappy rash include changing wet nappies immediately and using wipes or soaps without fragrance and alcohol.

If nappy rash does not get better or your baby is very uncomfortable, a GP may prescribe creams or medicine, such as steroid cream to reduce redness.

Common causes of nappy rash include your baby's skin being in contact with pee or poo for a long time and nappies rubbing against your baby’s skin.
