You can treat tendonitis yourself by resting the tendon, icing it and supporting it with an elastic bandage for 2 to 3 days.
The main symptoms of tendonitis are joint pain that gets worse when you move, difficulty moving a joint and swelling.
If tendonitis gets worse, you may need stronger painkillers and physiotherapy. Some people may need steroid injections or surgery.
You cannot always prevent tendonitis, but warming up before playing sport, wearing supportive shoes and not overusing tired muscles can help.
Tendonitis is when a tendon swells (becomes inflamed) after an injury. It's most common in the wrists, knees, elbows and shoulders.
