Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a viral infection that affects the skin. It most commonly affects children, although it can occur at any age.
Molluscum contagiosum is usually a harmless infection that causes small dimpled spots to appear on the skin.
The main symptom of molluscum contagiosum is small, firm spots that have a dimple in the middle. They can be itchy.
Molluscum contagiosum can be treated with liquids and gels but it's not usually recommended because the condition tends to clear up on its own.
To avoid spreading molluscum contagiosum to other people, cover up affected skin, do not scratch the spots and avoid sharing things like towels.
