A high temperature is 38C or more. A child with a high temperature might feel hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest.

You can look after a child with a high temperature by giving them fluids, checking on them regularly and giving paracetamol if they're uncomfortable.

A high temperature is the body's natural response to fighting infections. Illnesses like colds and chickenpox can cause a high temperature.

A high temperature (fever) is very common in young children. The temperature usually returns to normal within 1 to 4 days.
