Open all pages about Erythromelalgia

Erythromelalgia mainly affects the feet. Symptoms include heat, pain and redness.

You'll be referred to a specialist if a GP thinks you have erythromelalgia. They may do blood tests and tests to look for changes in your genes.

It's often not clear what causes erythromelalgia. Sometimes it's caused by another medical condition or a faulty gene inherited from a parent.

Treatments for erythromelalgia include creams, gels, sprays, tablets and medicines given into a vein.

Avoiding triggers, cooling or raising the area, and wearing loose clothing and shoes may help relieve erythromelalgia.

Erythromelalgia causes burning pain, redness and hot skin, mainly in the feet. Treatment and avoiding triggers can help.
