A heart attack is a serious condition where the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked. It needs to be treated as quickly as possible.


Symptoms of a heart attack include chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and sweating. Call 999 if you think someone is having a heart attack.


A heart attack needs to be treated in hospital as quickly as possible. Medicine or surgery may be needed to restore the supply of blood to your heart.


The main cause of heart attacks is the blood vessels leading to the heart being blocked by a fatty substance called cholesterol.


You can help reduce your risk of having a heart attack by eating healthily, getting plenty of exercise and maintaining a healthy weight.
