Snoring

Overview

Open all pages about Snoring

There are things you can do to help stop snoring, such as keeping a healthy weight, sleeping on your side, cutting down on alcohol and not smoking.

To find out what causes you to snore, your GP may look inside your mouth and nose or refer you to a specialist for more tests or treatment.

Treatment for snoring depends on the cause. Common treatments are small devices you wear in your mouth or nose as you sleep.

Snoring happens when your tongue, mouth or airways in your nose vibrate as you breathe. This is common if you smoke, drink alcohol or are overweight.

Snoring is very common and is not usually caused by anything serious. See your GP for treatment that can help if it's a problem.
