Overview

Open all pages about Reflux in babies

Symptoms of reflux in babies include bringing up milk soon after feeding, coughing when feeding and not gaining weight.

A health visitor can give you feeding tips to help reduce your baby’s reflux. This may include holding your baby upright and burping them regularly.

Sometimes reflux in babies may be treated with thickened formula feeds, medicines to stop milk coming back up and, rarely, surgery.

Babies often get reflux because their food pipe (oesophagus) is still developing, so milk can come back up easily.

Reflux is when a baby brings up milk during or shortly after feeding. It's very common and usually gets better as they get older.
