Moles

Overview

Open all pages about Moles

Most harmless moles are round with a smooth edge. A mole that’s a mix of colours, an uneven shape, bleeding or itchy is more likely to be cancerous.

Moles only need treating if they show signs of cancer. Surgery can be used to remove the mole.

The best way to help stop moles turning cancerous is to limit your skin’s exposure to sun and regularly apply a high-factor sunscreen.

Moles are small, coloured spots on the skin. They are usually nothing to worry about. See a GP if a mole changes size, shape or colour.
