Your periods are irregular if you have them more often than every 21 days or less often than every 35 days.

Causes of irregular periods include puberty, the start of menopause, pregnancy and some types of hormonal contraception.

Treatment is not always needed for irregular periods. If treatment is needed, it will depend on the cause.

Irregular periods are not usually a sign of a problem. But speak to a GP if your periods are irregular or your normal pattern of periods change.
