Gastritis

Overview

Open all pages about Gastritis

Symptoms of gastritis can include tummy pain, indigestion, feeling or being sick and bloating or fullness after eating.

Causes of gastritis include bacteria called helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), medicines that harm your stomach lining and drinking too much alcohol.

To find out the cause of gastritis, a GP might order a test of your breath or poo to help them choose the right treatment for you.

Depending on the cause of gastritis, you might need antibiotics, medicine to control stomach acid, or to change the medicines you regularly take.

Making changes to what you eat and drink and taking medicines that control your stomach acid can help ease some symptoms of gastritis.

Gastritis is when the lining of the stomach becomes irritated (inflamed).
