Bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma)

Overview

Bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma) is a cancer that's found anywhere in the small tubes that connect the different organs in the digestive system.

If you have bile duct cancer, you can get support from your specialist team and charities like AMMF, Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.

Anyone can get bile duct cancer. You may be more likely to get it if you are over 65 or have a medical condition, such as liver cirrhosis.

Symptoms of bile duct cancer include jaundice, losing weight, feeling tired, having a high temperature, feeling or being sick, and tummy pain.

Bile duct cancer is often treatable. Your treatment plan will depend on your situation. It may include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Bile duct cancer can be diagnosed using tests such as blood tests, different types of scans, or by collecting a sample of cells from the bile ducts.
